Malt Whisky Yearbook 2017
Dr. Burkay Adalığ
Like every other edition Malt Whisky Yearbook 2017 has different sections:
[icon]icon-pencil22[/icon] Whisky Trend Analysis Articles
This year the latest trends are summarized by great whisky experts like Charles MacLean, Jonny MacCormick, Ian Buxton, Becky Paskin, Gavin Smith and Neil Ridley. Charles MacLean made a beautiful summary of the world giant Diageo who will be celebrating its 20th birthday next year. Other articles on grain whiskies, new distilleries and the millenials’ whisky interest are other must read articles.
[icon]icon-pencil22[/icon] Whisky Distilleries and 2016 Expressions
One of the largest sections of the book is dedicated to distilleries. Each distillery has a page and a detailed history of the distillery and the core expressions are listed. Even very recently launched expressions like Lagavulin 8, Laphroaig Lore, Glenfiddich Experimental Series XX & IPA made it to the Malt Whisky Yearbook.
[icon]icon-pencil22[/icon] Lists
Different lists are scattered among the pages of the book. The whisky shops and the websites to watch (Im there on Page 81!) are very helpful for new whisky enthusiasts.
[icon]icon-pencil22[/icon] Theme of the Year
Again scattered thoughout the book are the thematic pages. This year’s theme is “The State of Scotch” and leading industry people like John Glazer (Compass Box), Sukinder Singh (The Whisky Exchange) & Kevin Abrook (Grant & Sons) give their opinions on hot topics like labeling, chill filtration and NAS (Non Age Statement) whiskies.
[icon]icon-pencil22[/icon] Global Whisky Market
Each year the Malt Whisky Yearbook summarizes the global market figures on whisky sales based on last years IWSR figures. You can see the latest figures on my recent blog post Best Selling Single Malts of the World (in Turkish)
I had the chance to see and have a short chat with Ingvar at The Whisky Show London; sure I asked for an autograph!
